Barn Owl Ringing in Glencoe.
26 June 2008

On Wednesday night (25th June) an exciting event took place in Glencoe. As noted in our ranger diary we have barn owls breeding on the property; and this week our property manager Doug Mainland, who has a license to ring, drafted the help of the rangers to help him ring the chicks that were born earlier this year. We found two chicks in the nest, and ringed them both. Ringing is essential if we are to learn about how long they live and when and where they move, questions that are vital for bird conservation. It also means that the property is informed if the bird is found elsewhere later in its life or after its death, helping us to learn more about the birds born on the property.

We'll upload some pictures of the action in the ranger's diary!
