Massacre Landrover Safaris
March 21st & 28th, April 4th & 11th, & Every Friday in July, August and October. Meet 10.15am outside Glencoe Folk Museum in Glencoe Village. For those interested in the darker side of Glencoe, we'll transport you to many key sites and unravel the true history of the Massacre of Glencoe. Price includes entry to the Glencoe Folk Museum. £15 Booking Essential.
Guided Walks
Visitor Centre Guided Walks 29th/30th March, 5th/6th April, 11th/12th/18th/19th/25th/26th October, and Every Saturday and Sunday in July and August. Short guided walks daily from the visitor centre (weather depending). Learn a little of the history, wildlife and conservation of the Glen. More walks may be organised during busy periods and fine weather. Call or drop into the visitor centre to find out nearer the time. 11am-12pm. £3 Booking Required.
Dawn Chorus Walk Sunday 4th May (call nearer time to confirm start time) approx. 2 hour walk. Come and take an early walk with the rangers to listen to the world waking up. Then we'll head back to the visitor centre for a breakfast of bacon or egg ciabatta and hot tea/coffee. £6 (refreshments included) Booking Essential.
Mountain Nature Walk Saturday 17th May, 9.30am-5pm. A walk with Summer Mountain Leader qualified rangers, looking at the plants and animals that live in the mountains, the geology of the Glen and habitat management issues. This is a full day walk. Strong boots, full waterproofs and a packed lunch are required. A camera and/or binoculars would also be useful. £20 Booking Essential.
Fire and Ice and All things Nice. Monday 2nd June, 1.30pm-4.30pm A European Geopark Week event in association with Locaber Geopark. A short, low-level walk looking at how volcanoes and glaciers shaped the glen to what we see today. Meet at the visitor centre. Walking boots and waterproofs required. £15 Booking Essential.
Hidden Hanging Valleys Wednesday 4th June, 10am-3pm A European Geopark Week event in association with Locaber Geopark. A guided walk to Coire Gabhail - Glencoe's infamous Coire of Capture and one of Scotland's most famous hanging valley's. Wildlife, history and geology abound in this special place. Packed kunch, walking boots, and waterproofs required. Parts of the route are steep and care is required. No unaccompanied under 18's. Meet at the Visitor Centre. £10 Booking Essential.

Deer Walk Monday 7th July, and Monday 4th August 10am-4pm. Join our Ranger and Stalker for a walk through Glencoe. Learn all about the life of the Monarch of the Glen! All day walk; bring boots, waterproofs ad a packed lunch. A camera and binoculars would also be useful. £15 Booking Essential.
Butterfly Walk Wednesday 23rd July, 12pm-2pm. Join our ranger for a short stroll around the local area looking at butterflies and day flying moths. We'll go out with nets and see what we can find. July is a great time of year to find some of the rarer species found in this area! Strong shoes or boots required. £5 Booking Essential.
Children's Events
Daily Childrens Events 25th March to 11th April, 30th June to 29th August, and 6th October to 31st October. Every weekday 3pm-4pm. All £3 except Children's Landrover safari. Booking is required. Monday - Nature Detectives - A wildlife walk and scavenger hunt with a ranger Tuesday - Mini Beasts and Pond Dipping - Wildlife walk and pond dipping to see what bugs and beasties we can find! Wednesday - Children's Landrover Safari - A spooky tour of Glencoe's dark past, including a visit to some of the places used in the Harry Potter films. Thursday - Flutterby Butterfly - A butterfly hunt and games. (Summer months only - during March, April & October this will be Nature Detectives) Friday - Orien-tree-ing - Come and navigate your way around our tree trail.
Easter Egg Trail (In association with Cadbury) Saturday 22nd, Sunday 23rd & Monday 24th March. Anytime between 10am and 3.30pm. A self-guided easter egg trail aound the visitor centre and the paths around the centre. Return to the Visitor Centre having successfully completed the trail and there could be an egg shaped prize waiting for you! £1 per child.
Glencoe Rocks Saturday 7th June, 11am-12pm. Fun stuff for kids! Make your own volcano, see it erupt before your eyes, hunt for fossils and other games. £3 Booking Essential.
Mini Highland Games Saturday 2nd August, 12pm to 3pm. A highland games just for children. We'll have haggis and spoon races, three-legged races and much more! £5 Booking Essential.
Exhibitions at the Visitor Centre
MARCH A Photographic exhibition by Mel Gillies. Photos taken by Mel Gillies from the opening of the Machermo Porter Shelter and Rescue Post in the Everest region by Dr Jim Duff and Doug Scott. £Free. Open every day 10am to 4pm.
MAY 21st to JUNE 30th Mapping the Mountains An exhibition in association with Lochaber Geopark. Find out how the Highlands inspired science! An exhibition based on the original geological mapping of Scotland’s Northwest Highlands. The 1880s maps and field sketches document the first steps to a worldwide understanding of how mountains are formed. £Free. Open every day 9.30am to 5.30pm.
JULY Timeless Light A photographic exhibition by Colin Homes. £Free. Open every day 9.30am-5.30pm. (On July 10th Colin Homes will also be giving a talk about his exhibition at 5.30pm - see the other events section below for more details)
AUGUST Light and Dark A photograpic exhibition by Sandy Smith. £Free. Open every day 9.30am-5.30pm.
Other Events
Moth Night and Morning Friday 6th June (evening) and Saturday 7th June (morning) (Times to be confirmed nearer the time) Join us at the visitor centre to have a look what flying creatures are about while we sleep! We'll go out on Friday night to set up the traps for about an hour and then return in the morning on Saturday to see what exciting moths we've found! Followed by coffee and a cake in the Cafe. £6 (refreshments included) Booking Essential.
Storytelling Walks Saturday 16th August. Storyteller, Scot AnSgeulaiche guides a short walk (45mins) around the wild areas of the Visitor Centre, setting the scene for folk tales of plants and trees. There will be several walks throughout the day. Please call at the Visitor Centre or check the website for more details nearer the time. Walking footwear and waterproofs required. £3.
Living History Days with Alba Adventure. Sunday 15th June, Saturday 19th July, Sunday 10th August and Sunday 7th September. Living history performance explaining the weapons and costumes of a highland clansman during the 18th century. £Free. |
